Prospect Research & Database Manager

The Prospect Research and Database Manager has responsibility for evaluating and identifying prospects for the university’s fundraising effort as well as maintaining and organizing constituent information in the database. The goal of this position is to provide proactive and reactive prospect research on individuals and communicate this information to appropriate fundraising officers and to maintain the integrity and accuracy of the constituent database. This position will work closely with the Director of Advancement Services and with fundraising officers as a partner in helping achieve their department goals.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Conduct proactive research methodologies utilizing paid and free, on-line and offline donor research resources to support the fund raising efforts of the University (e.g. Raiser’s Edge, Lexis Nexis, Research Point, and other online data bases).
  • Analyze and interpret financial data and assets, biographical and personal information, professional and business information, areas of interest, philanthropic support, affiliations, compensation, stocks/options, retirement plans, and property transactions, to identify financial capacity and propensity, for purposes of developing comprehensive profile reports and briefs on annual gift, planned gift and major gift donors and prospects, tailored to the needs of major gift officers and Annual Fund Manager, to be used to develop strategies and solicitation requests and/or for cultivation events.
  • At the direction of the Vice President for Philanthropy & Communications and the Director of Advancement Services, assist with the planning, implementation, monitoring of research, rating and categorizing of a prospective pool of likely individual donors for major gifts, annual gifts and planned gifts. Assist Major Gifts Officers with tracking activities and moves management coordination.
  • Enter, update, manage and track identification/qualification/cultivation/solicitation/stewardship of prospects within the Raiser’s Edge database using the Moves Management model, and generate reports reflecting the status of prospects.
  • Update and maintain the integrity of all constituent records in Raiser’s Edge. Generate alumni reports, event attendance reports and other types of reports as requested.
  • Participate in meetings with leadership and senior staff, research team and others for purposes of informing prospect identification.
  • Provide relevant materials enabling coordinated research planning, supporting both University development projects and unit fund raising priorities.
  • Participate in unit and development staff meetings and carry out assigned tasks resulting from discussions.
  • Oversees maintenance of all donor files located within research department.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS/SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • The successful candidate will have comprehensive knowledge of research methods and private foundations associated with fundraising for a non-profit institution, or online research skills in another capacity.
  • Strong technology skills and computer literacy is essential, including database knowledge, Internet search skills, and Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge and Research Point required.
  • Candidates must possess outstanding critical thinking skills as well as the ability to analyze and interpret complex business and financial data and philanthropic information.
  • Must be able to multi-task and meet strict deadlines.
  • Must have a demonstrated ability to work independently and as a self-starter in a team-oriented environment, work congenially with staff, administration, faculty, volunteers and others, organize complex materials, manage more than one project at a time, adapt to changing priorities, maintain sensitive and confidential information, and communicate comfortably in an academic setting.
  • Ability to work with a high degree of flexibility, accuracy and attention to detail.
