No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of or be subject to discrimination under any educational program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.

Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 is a federal law that prohibits sex discrimination in education. The law forbids sex discrimination in all university student services and academic programs including, but not limited to, admissions, financial aid, academic advising, residential life, athletics, discipline, recreational services, health, wellness and support services, academic assignments and grading. Title IX also forbids sex discrimination in university employment and recruitment consideration or selection.

Student Health Center, Victim Advocacy and Counseling
Community programs assisting survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking include:
St. Thomas University offers on-campus support through our Student Health & Counseling Center, located in the Building 15, known as Cascia/Glasshouse. This includes counseling resources medical services provided through Baptist Health South Florida. Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments recommended.
Additionally, St. Thomas University collaborates with the following local organizations to provide resources for sexual assault, domestic violence, and substance abuse. All are available 24 hours a day and are free of charge:
The Roxcy Bolton Rape Treatment Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital is available to provide support, crisis intervention, and medical support, and counseling services. 24-hour crisis hotline: (305) 585-7273.
The Women in Distress of Broward County at (954) 761-1133, or Victim Response Inc (The Lodge) in Miami at (305) 693-0232, are both certified agencies certified to provide services and resources related to domestic violence emergency shelter, and crisis counseling.
The U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights is responsible for enforcing Title IX.
