The Honorable Linda Singer Stein
Judge Linda Singer Stein was elected to office as a County Court Judge in Miami-Dade County in 1992. This is her 31st year on the bench and she has served more than half of that time as an Associate Administrative Judge and the Administrative Judge for the County Court Civil Division. Judge Stein began her career as a federal Judicial Law Clerk and subsequently became Appellate Counsel to the law firm of Thornton, David & Murray, P.A. There, she handled and argued cases in the Third and Fourth District Court of Appeals and the federal 11th Circuit Court of Appeals, in many areas of the law, including, aviation defense, personal injury, medical malpractice and breach of contract. Judge Stein was the co-drafter of the briefs before the United States Supreme Court and was part of the team in an important airline case interpreting the Warsaw Convention. The Supreme Court unanimously ruled in favor of Judge Stein’s client resulting in a complete victory.
Upon becoming a Judge, she was first assigned to the criminal division, handling DUI’s and misdemeanor cases. She has presided over domestic violence cases and reviews petitions for temporary domestic violence injunctions on a regular basis. Throughout the years, Judge Stein has been a mentor to many judges, including those that are now sitting in appellate and federal courts and is often called upon to assist with issues of law and professionalism.
Judge Stein represented the entire County Court Civil Division on the 11th Judicial Circuit’s Pandemic Task Force and led the division through the many changes of transitioning from in person to virtual hearings, ensuring that there was continuous access to the courts. She also appeared before the Miami-Dade County Commission to advocate for a program that provides a path for litigants to resolve their eviction cases without court intervention, in an effort to move cases efficiently and without delay.
Judge Stein educates people of all ages, ranging from grade school students to lawyers, about various areas of the law, professionalism, and civility. Judge Stein plans and co-chairs the annual Law Day celebration at the North Dade Justice Center, bringing guest speakers such as Supreme Court Justices and Federal Judges to the courthouse to educate the public about the law. She also serves as a panelist at Bench and Bar Conferences, discussing various areas of the law and court procedures.
Judge Stein prides herself on treating everyone with respect, in and out of court and has a reputation for applying the law in a fair and just manner.
