The 2020 edition of the Princeton Review has been released and St. Thomas University School of Law has earned the #1 ranking among all American law schools for Greatest Resources for Minority Students. The ranking is based on the percentage of the student body that is from underrepresented minority groups as well as students’ assessment of whether they receive equal treatment by fellow students and faculty, regardless of ethnicity. St. Thomas Law has consistently ranked in the top 10 for this category and this marks the second time that we have earned the #1 ranking, the other being in 2017.
St. Thomas Law also earned 2020 top 10 rankings in two additional categories – #7 for Greatest Resources for Women, and #8 for Most Diverse Faculty.
The Most Diverse Faculty ranking is based on the percentage of the law school’s faculty that is from a minority group and our students’ assessment of whether the faculty is made up of a broadly diverse group of individuals. The Greatest Resources for Women ranking was determined based on law school reported data on the percentage of the student body that are women and student answers to a survey question on whether all students are afforded equal treatment by students and faculty regardless of their gender.
The newest rankings affirm St. Thomas Law’s commitment to every student’s success and shines light on the pride we have in our diverse student body. The recognition is consistent with our mission to provide opportunities to those groups that have been, and continue to be, underrepresented in the legal profession.
In order for a law school to be ranked, it must meet the Princeton Review’s criteria for academic excellence and be approved by the American Bar Association. In developing the ranking, Princeton Review took into account the opinions of our law students about their campus and classroom experiences. For the 2020 list, 19,000 students at the 167 schools were surveyed. The Princeton Review’s 80-question student survey asked law school students about their schools’ academics, student body, and campus life. It also included questions for the respondents about themselves and their career plans. The student surveys for this edition were conducted during the 2018–19, 2017–18, and 2016–17 academic years.
