A bright nautical aqua wall now permeates the Rev. Jorge A. Sardiñas Gallery inside the Main Library at St. Thomas University.
On February 27, we celebrated the grand opening of the Miami Dolphins and St. Thomas University Photographic Exhibition.
More than just a collection of photos, this exhibition tells the story of the bond that St. Thomas will always have with the Miami Dolphins.
The Dolphins trained at St. Thomas when the university was still named Biscayne College. They trained here for 23 seasons, and in those seasons won 229 regular-season games. In their time practicing on campus, they also went to the NFL Playoffs 14 times, made five Super Bowl appearances and won two Super Bowl Championships, including the 1972 “Perfect Season,” making them the only team in the NFL to win the Super Bowl with a perfect season.
Along with photos dating back to the 1970’s and the 1980’s, the exhibition showcases memorabilia and a short video with more insight on our close bond to the Dolphins. 70 percent of the photos in the exhibition were provided by the Miami Dolphins. The rest were pulled from our University Archives. A quote from President David Armstrong stands out on the aqua wall.
“They[Miami Dolphins] gave hope and inspired pride in Miami-Dade residents, they made a lasting impact on students, and helped our university launch one of the first undergraduate sports administration programs in the nation. It is an honor we get to call the Dolphins a part of our family.”
The exhibition will be open until May 29, 2020 and is open to the public.
