This morning, St. Thomas University’s president David A. Armstrong, J.D. confirmed that construction on the Gus Machado Business School Complex will begin in January 2019. “To usher in the New Year, we’re pleased to announce that our building project is underway,” he said. “By Fall 2020, we’ll be prepared to offer our new and returning business students enhanced degree programs in technologically-equipped facilities with modern twenty-first century functionality, which would parallel any competitive, real world business setting.”
Included in the complex will be the Gus Machado School of Business Academic Building, the Business School Administration Building, and the Center for Career Development. This complex will also boast an open-air design flow with a trading floor, global conference auditorium, video telecast room and a sky bridge.
With the construction of the complex and availability of high market demand majors, the School of Business is targeted to double its enrollment. “Ingrained in the DNA of our Gus Machado School of Business is entrepreneurship. We will have the Victor and Lisa Mendelson Institute for Data Science and Analytics and the Institutes for Sports Administration, Cybersecurity Studies, Global Entrepreneurship and Trade & Logistics,” said President Armstrong. “With a focus on ethical leadership, we are seeking corporate partners to advise us on their needs and to bring real life business challenges into the classroom. Our response to industry sector demands includes student internships, business research projects and professional trainings. We look forward to expanding these collaborations.”
St. Thomas continues to incorporate traditional Catholic tenets in its curriculum. Vice Chair of the University’s Board of Trustees Jorge Rico acknowledges the need to promote the University’s future outlook while paying homage to its foundation. “I thank our community and the Archbishop for embracing and supporting the construction of the new Gus Machado School of Business complex. These buildings will provide a state-of-the art learning facility that together with our exceptional faculty will prepare our students to thrive in their business careers.”
Globally-recognized architectural firm Bermello Ajamil & Partners (B&A) created the award winning complex design. Legendary Ford dealership owner Gus Machado and his wife Lilliam generously donated the naming gift for the Business School to support the future career success of young people in South Florida.
