The Fernandez Family Center will transform into a vibrant seafood paradise for the hotly anticipated 14th Stone Crab Dinner at 6 p.m., Sunday, October 27, to raise funds for St. Thomas University’s sports teams.

Guests will indulge in the freshest stone crabs paired with various tasty sides, said Brad Rzyczycki, STU’s Assistant Athletic Director for Athletic Philanthropy and the football team’s defensive coordinator.

An open bar will complement the meal, offering refreshing beverages that enhance the dining experience, Coach Rzyczycki said. But the event is more than just a dinner.

It is also a unique opportunity to contribute significantly to the future of Bobcat Athletics, Rzyczycki said.

“Your support will ensure that our student-athletes have the resources they need to excel both on the field, and in the classroom, providing them with the best possible experience during their time here,” Coach Rzyczycki added.

The dinner attracts boosters, alumni, members of the local community, and the campus community who share a passion for St. Thomas University’s athletics.

“The fundraising efforts allow us to cover better logistics, providing our players with the experience they deserve,” said St. Thomas University Softball Head Coach Juan Gutierrez. “Every ticket sold goes directly to our fundraising account, allowing us access to better resources.”

Coach Gutierrez noted that team-building experiences do not just come from playing games. Gutierrez added that bonding and important lessons also come from working together to raise funds that create more opportunities for players and coaches, who work tirelessly every day to build teams worthy of such support.

Each athletic program is tasked with assisting with fundraising. Every penny raised from the event will go directly to the 32 STU Bobcat athletic programs, ensuring that the 1,200 student-athletes have access to top-notch resources, facilities, and experiences as they train and compete.

The Stone Crab Dinner plays a vital role in providing the Bobcats with the collegiate experience they truly deserve, Coach Rzyczycki said.

“Bobcat athletics at STU have enjoyed a renaissance since President Armstrong and Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Bill Rychel added football in 2019,” Rzyczycki said. “We look forward to helping all our teams and student-athletes thrive with another memorable night full of amazing food, great conversation, and support for Bobcat athletics.
