Congratulations to St. Thomas University College of Law alumnus, faculty, and Trial Team faculty advisor Houson R. Lafrance on receiving the Black Law Student Association (BLSA) Martin Luther King, Jr. Award!
On Wednesday, January 26th, at 6:00 PM, the 2nd Annual MLK Award Ceremony took place at the STU Law Moot Courtroom. The honoree & those in attendance were welcomed by St. Thomas University President David A. Armstrong, J.D.
The opening remarks were given by BLSA President Angelica B. Knight, followed by a live rendition of Lift Every Voice and Sing sung by Student Bar Association (SBA) Vice President Jessica Grobman.
Next, Mr. Lafrance was introduced and presented with the MLK Award by Dean Tamara Lawson, who spoke passionately about Mr. Lafrance’s growth from top law student to zealous advocate for both his students and clients.
Mr. Lafrance accepted his award by thanking all those who supported him and played a role in his trajectory towards the lawyer he has become. He paid special tribute to his supportive wife for being his key to success. He left the audience with words of wisdom, his favorite quote, “Excellence Demands Consistency.”
The ceremony ended with the BLSA Faculty advisor, Professor Jeremiah Chin, giving the closing remarks and encouraging everyone to continue the celebration in the Cordero Breezeway, where light hors d’oeuvres and refreshments were served.
Congratulations, Houson R. Lafrance, and thank you for your consistency to excellence.
