Bachelor of Arts in Communication
What brought you to St. Thomas University? I am from Brazil and always wanted to study journalism. When the opportunity to play soccer at St. Thomas University came to me, it was an easy decision since I knew STU offered Communications.
Where are you now and what are you doing? I am the Head Coach of the U.S. Men and Women Beach Soccer National Team. I am also the Co-founder of the Fútbol, Beach, Soccer (FBS) FC youth soccer club. Normally, I would be traveling around the world looking for talented players for tournaments. Because of coronavirus, I am staying local and working to bring the training center for the national team to Miami.
What do you like most about what you are doing? I love that I am making a positive impact in the lives of kids and adults. With the national team, I am able to help young adults find a passion and transform their lives to achieve their goals and pursue better professional opportunities.
How did your experience at St. Thomas University shape your career path? I made friends that lasted a lifetime that have helped me beyond words along my path. I also felt a sense of belonging and pride with my team that I have carried and created in my organization.
Share your favorite St. Thomas University memory? It is hard to pick one but I loved all the traveling I got to do with my teammates to represent STU!
What is the most important thing you learned while you were attending St. Thomas University? I really learned how to be a team player. With my team I learned great sportsmanship and learned to be adaptable and make the best out of every opportunity.
What advice would you give current students or recent graduates interested in pursuing a career in your professional field? I encourage all Bobcats to follow their dreams with desire and conviction, especially when the going gets tough.
What activities were you involved in when you were at St. Thomas University? Aside from being on the STU Men’s Soccer team, I was also part of the STU radio and Habitat for Humanity. I got to do a little bit of everything I loved. Play soccer, develop myself professionally and give back to my community.
What do you enjoy doing when you aren’t working? I love spending time with my family and playing footvolley!
