The Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice at St. Thomas University is uniquely designed to provide students with an expansive understanding of crime and society’s control mechanisms, as well as to prepare them for a professional career in criminal justice, criminology, and related professions.

Program Overview

The BA in Criminal Justice at STU teaches you how to take a broad yet specialized degree and apply it to the operations of criminal justice professions, such as law enforcement, courts, corrections, advocacy (domestic violence, human trafficking, elderly abuse), juvenile justice and cybersecurity. Our program offers a curriculum that challenges a student’s critical thinking skills to produce high academic achievement outcomes, mixed with practical application through internships, study abroad and experiential learning opportunities.

The Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice degree program offers students the option to enter STU’s 3 + 3 BA/JD program.

Bachelor of Arts / Juris Doctor 3+3

STU offers a unique 3 + 3 BA/JD program, that allows students to complete their bachelor’s degree requirements and earn their law degree in 6 years instead of the traditional 7.

Students spend less time in school and thus are eligible to take the bar exam earlier and enter the legal field a year ahead of their contemporary counterparts with the potential to take advantage of positions in private or public law in a less crowded competitive field.

Those who successfully enter the STU College of Law through the BA/JD program will automatically receive a $5000 scholarship for each of the three years of study while in law school.

Career Landscape

Graduates can pursue highly rewarding professional careers with federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, including the courts, correctional services, victim services, as well as various administrative agencies such as the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Federal Trade Commission, and the Environmental Protection Agency, the Internal Revenue Service, all of which employ special investigators. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median pay for criminal justice professionals ranges from 65,000 to 102,000 annually.
