Dr. Gonzalez grew up in Miami, Florida and attended Miami Dade College from 1982 to 1983. He then matriculated to the University of the East (Universidad Central del Este – UCE) medical school in the Dominican Republic from 1983 to 1987, earning a Doctorate in Medicine (MD) degree.
He began his professional career as a house/staff physician at Memorial Hospital of Hollywood from 1990 to 1993. In 1999, he was appointed as an Instructor of Natural Sciences and Medical Training for Ward Stone College/NST in Miami from 1993 to 1999. His academic responsibilities included the following: Instructor of Anatomy/Physiology lecture and lab; Instructor of basic pharmacology, medical terminology, basic radiology and medical disease process; Development of the course curriculum for the individual classes; Train students in CPR and OSHA for certification; and participated in administrative meetings with the college president and other faculty to discuss student and college issues.
From 1999 to 2001, he was a biology teacher for Hialeah Senior High School and then was appointed as an instructor/adjunct faculty for Miami Dade College (MDC) from 2001 to 2015. He was assigned to the following duties: Instructor of Anatomy/Physiology; Presented complete lectures on all aspects of the human body.
While he was MDC from 2005 to 2015, he was also an advisor/case manager for the School of Education of MDC. In this role, he performed the following duties: Advised students seeking a degree in educational; Advised current teachers with information on courses that may be taken at MDC that are approved by the state of Florida for obtaining a Teacher (Educator) Certification; Reviewed and evaluated credentials from US and foreign colleges/universities for students transferring to MDC.
In 2014, Dr. Gonzalez was appointed as an instructor for the Masters in Physician Assistant Studies program of Florida International University /Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine. He has the following responsibilities: Teach Human Gross Anatomy lecture and lab; Teach Human Physiology lecture I and II; Teach Clinical Assessment I and II lecture and OSCE lab; Teach Clinical Medicine I – Pulmonology, Nephrology & Infectious Diseases lectures; Provide students with tutoring in the areas of human anatomy & physiology. He is also the academic adviser/counselor/mentor for the Master’s in Physician Assistant Studies program. He currently teaches Anatomy/Physiology and Biology at MDC and St. Thomas University.
In January of 2020, Dr. Gonzalez began teaching at St. Thomas University as an adjunct instructor of biology. Taught as an adjunct in biology and anatomy and physiology for the next two years. In the Fall of 2022, Dr. Gonzalez was promoted to a full-time position of Assistant Professor of Anatomy & Physiology, and heads and coordinates the anatomy & physiology section of the biological sciences.
Based on his training and employment, Dr. Gonzalez has demonstrated a strong passion for teaching in diverse types of academic environments focusing on all aspects of medical education. His personal mission in life is to help others as a means of repaying those who have opened doors for him, helped him to achieve and inspired him to be the best in his personal and professional life.
